Systemic dialogue lines for a military sim set in Bolivia. These barks trigger in response to specific gameplay conditions and must coexist with scripted, questline-related dialogue. The ones listed here are examples and represent a fraction of the triggers and variations covered during my mission.
PC – Ghosts systemic dialogue
The Ghosts are members of an elite tactical force within the US army. They specialize in covert operations led outside of the US jurisdiction. In the context of Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites, their opponents belong to a faction operating like a cult; hostiles are masked and the atmosphere is generally more tense and grim than in other Wildlands questlines. The lines needed to reflect that while keeping the Ghosts’ personalities intact.

NPC – Los Penitentes systemic Dialogue
Los Penitentes are followers of La Llorona, Last Rites main antagonist. They come from various backgrounds: some were farmers, others ex-rebels or even ex-cartel or ex-Unidad. La Llorona managed to inspire them all to follow her despite their being enemies in the past. They fight against globalized-capitalism-colonialism, but they’re also deeply indoctrinated. They think their leader came back from the dead to free them and pray to her like she’s a goddess.
| Trigger | Line |
| Combat engaged | [elated] Let them burn! |
| May their ashes enrich our soil! | |
| They’ll beg us to let them atone when we’re finished! | |
| Slaughter the heatens! | |
| [quoting] « You shall not let the corrupted one live. » | |
| You have been sentenced to die. | |
| Let us purge the land of this filth! | |
| Go back to the hells you belong to! | |
| The cleanse is nigh! | |
| Idle talk – Penitentes chatter when the Ghosts are undetected | While we slept, they drank our blood and quenched our fire… But She came and awoke us… |
| [chanting] … and the bones of the brethren shall join in a circle of fire and exhilarated rage… | |
| [praying] I look upon your face, and my thirst is quenched. Your vengeance is my virtue. | |
| [praying] I give you my limbs and my breath, Lady of Light, so you turn them into weapons against the heathens… | |
| [praying] Hallowed be thy name, and your enemies made into ashes… | |
| … they scarred our land for silver and riches, but out of the sutures, we emerge… | |
| … embers scattered along the road to awe, we will join in a brazier like no being has ever seen… | |
| … and Her tears will burn new paths open and She will walk them until every last oppressor is but ash… | |
| [praying] … may the Cause fill me with radiant fire, and may I remake myself into Her worthy Flame… | |
| « And the Penitentes will carry punishment for all others, and bring the mighty and the strong to their knees… » | |
| … seek the light in the eye of your enemy and seize it and turn it into the spoils of the fight… | |
| The Ghosts sent a grenade | Watch out, brothers! |
| Cowards! They used impure fire. | |
| Protect your kin! | |
| Grenade! Leap away! | |
| [angrily] Cowardly crows! | |
| Taunting in fight | Tell me, sinner… How does it feel to lose? |
| Did you think mere heathens could measure up to Her? | |
| Squirm all you want! You’ll die all the same. | |
| Of ashes your voices, to ashes your flesh! | |
| Grave robbers don’t get tumbstones. | |
| Come and sing, sinner. | |
| Investigating – The Penitentes know there are Ghosts in the area and are trying to find them | They would surprise us in our sleep, but our eyes are wide open. |
| [shouting] In the name of the Sancta Llorona, show yourself! | |
| She wants them punished. Find them! | |
| [shouting] We’ll find you and fashion your innards into prayer beads! | |
| Leave no stone unturned. | |
| Self-appointed angels, yet they hide like rats! | |
| [quoting] « … And they will hide in shadows where only true light can flush them out… » | |
| [quoting] « And it is the task of faithful embers to ever remain vigilant against darkness… » | |
| Where would a heretic hole himself up? | |
| [shouting] You cannot run from Her word! | |
| You cannot escape what is coming. | |
| [Talking to himself] I don’t see them… But I hear them crawling… | |
| [talking to himself] Rampant sin… Rotten flesh in the guise of men… | |
| Scared little soldiers cowering in the shadows… | |
| Unearth the demons, scatter their ashes! | |
| They’re here, they’ll never let us be. They must die. | |
| [shouting] Where are your masters now, sinners? | |
| Daily life – A priest is blessing Penitentes | You are purified. Walk the path of light, my brother. |
| In the name of La Llorona, on behalf of Bolivia, I bless you. | |
| You may go, ember, under Her gaze. | |
| Enemy intercom – Losing track of the Ghosts | (excited, victorious) The sinners are gone. They fear us. |
| (concerned, solemn) No trace of the enemy, remain vigilant, brothers. | |
| The trail has gone cold. Keep tracking the heathens. | |
| They flee our presence. Resume patrol. | |
| Enemy intercom – Penitentes body found by patrol | (angry, almost preaching) Heathens are scattering our bodies among the trees! Look for them, avenge our brothers! |
| We found a corpse. It’s one of ours! Someone’s here! | |
| A brother was murdered here! We’re under attack! | |
| Enemy intercom – Ghosts presence detected | Sinners! Get to cover! |
| The time has come to fight, brothers. They’re here! | |
| Heathens sighted! Free them of their sins! | |
| Sinners sighted in the area. Make them regret it. | |
| Sinners dare shooting at Her followers! Kill them! |
